Hello everyone,

I have a couple things I'd like to say to members and non-members:

-If you don't have anything nice to say don't comment and waste your time or mine. I won't stand for    nastiness on this page, or people going out making hurtful remarks. I do not care how "concerned" you are don't pass judgement.

-If you don't like the group, don't complain, just please go your way and we'll go ours.

-Also please remember to RESPECT everyone. If you cannot say what you want in a nice and polite way maybe you should re-consider saying it.

-Also, if you no longer wish to be a member please click the "leave" button, it's very simple. Do not stay joined if you no longer wish to be a part of the group.

I hope all you betta mommy and daddy's are doing well and please enjoy Mother's day!

Not sure how often messages are checked, but I'll try.
I've a betta fish and she's had this black dot on her side close to her tail but up towards her back for the longest time..lately withing the last couple days a lump has formed there and it bulges out from her side. She still eats regularly, and is still very active. No changes in behavior or any other signs of problems on her.
I didnt know if it was just simple constipation and cause she's so light colored i can see the feces in her and she's stopped up and cant go 'go to the bathroom' or something..
I just dunno if its something minor and i just need to fast her for a few days or if its major and i really need to worry. Thanks!

Hello, I have a question about my betta fish. He has been acting kinda funny lately. Hes always sitting on the bottom of his tank or in his castle. Hes not eating verry much and when he does come out he twiches when he swimms. Also I've noticed cluoudy white spots on his skales. Do you know what's wrong with him?

I'm sorry to hear about yoru fish and sorry for the late reply that was ick on him. Your pet shop should have medicine if he's still alive.

Sounds like some manner of fungal infection. If it's cottony, it's a "true fungus" and there is a medicine called MarOxy you can get at most fish stores that will help (follow the instructions carefully). If it's sort of stringy and greyish, it's probably something called columnaris - the same company makes something called Maracyn that helps clear it up. I've been using their charts and medicines on my fish every time I had an issue (thankfully none with the current guy, but when I had a community tank it was a lifesaver)

That "twitching" you see is called "flashing", more than likely you'll see him striking his body against the plants - he's trying to rid himself of the infection on his skin.

If you have any photos I can try to help. Not a member of the group yet but I stumbled by and happened to look at the comment. I've been keeping these guys for... coming close to 10 years now.

Thank you so much for the help!
I actualy didnt get your message in time to try
that medicine.
I didnt know what was wrong with him at the time.(and I still don't,
though I researched fungal infections and other ilnesses)It wasnt
cottony or puffy, they were like scabs. My other fish had Ick once so
my dad said that the Ick relife dropsmight help the twitching -or now
I know is calledflashing :)- So I put some drops in and just kept
the water clean.
Hes doing a lot better now, although I'm almost positive he didnt have
Ick because there wernt those little worms in the water.
Thank you so much for the advice though! It helps to know some stuff.
I am also trying to fined out if its because he doesnt have a heater.
My dad says betta fish dont need a heater, but my tank is alot bigger
than the little fishie cups.

It depends how well you can keep the temp. The light on top of my smaller tank gets hot enough that it actually heats it. But when I had the 10 gallon out I did use a heater. I did have one weirdo betta who seemed to like cooler water though (I think that was the same one who got all depressed when I tried to put him in a bigger tank... there was something wrong in that fish's brain LOL).

If your house doesn't get too cold it might be okay - they have cheapish little thermometers that are just like stickers you can put on the glass - that's what the small tank has and it seems to be pretty accurate. It's also good to have a basic mini-care kit that contains things like melafix (just don't use too much), aquarium salts, and some form of stress coat encouraging product (I always used Jungle Start-right but I've heard folks say it's not actually one of the better brands - it workes for me, but it also may depend how it reacts with the water you've got).

I used to have a really awesome collection of links for betta care, half of them are broken now. x.x
